Maintaining Your Sanity in a Divorce

bankruptcyDivorce is often one of the most difficult challenges you will ever go through. You will get through this and you will be able to get on with your life after divorce. Seeing the path ahead can be challenging though, so follow these tips to get through the hard times.

–        Don’t listen to your ex. Your spouse is not an expert on the law, so don’t take what he or she tells you as fact when it comes to what will or will not happen in your divorce. This is why you have hired an attorney. Get the facts from your lawyer, not from your ex.

–        Forgive yourself. You aren’t perfect and you are in a challenging situation. Mistakes will be made. Let them go.

–        Stay healthy. Make your physical health a top priority in your life, continuing your workouts and exercise, getting enough sleep, and eating right. If you can keep your body on track, your mind is sure to follow.

–        Remember this will all pass. When you are in the center of the storm, it may seem like your life will never settle down. Within several months, your situation will have changed and you will be able to look back at where you are now and applaud yourself for being so strong.

–        Find support. Call in the troops. You need your friends and family to get you through these tough days. It may also be helpful to see a therapist or join a support group. Lean on people and let them help you.
