Three Things Not To Say About Your Ex

Arizona Divorce Law

The urge to badmouth or put your ex (or soon to be ex) down during a divorce case is great. But in many instances the things you say and do are a direct reflection on you, and can have a negative impact on your case. There is no better place to look for a little mudslinging during a divorce than the world of celebrities, and this includes professional athletes.

Ex NFL player, Derek Hagan has recently said some unkind things about his estranged wife, Tiffany LeBlanc, and while it remains to be seen whether these statements are a factor in any divorce between the two it is a good idea to limit your comments in the following areas if you are in the middle of ending your marriage:

  • Comments about parenting, which may also reflect on things you have done regarding your kids. Of course if there is a real danger or concern it is always best to voice that concern, but there is also a way to make your thoughts known without bringing your children or your own character into the picture.
  • Comments about extra-curricular activities, because these types of scenarios can often be taken out of context. For a celebrity, as with anyone, there is always two sides to the story but what gets reported about a star is usually only the sensational facts. Keep your comments based on fact, and avoid exaggeration when commenting on issues outside of your own personal knowledge.
  • Comments about finances should also be kept to a minimum, or not made at all. Financial settlements in divorces are sensitive and touchy areas, the less you have to say to your next door neighbor or best friend; the better.
